The Somali Ministry of Relief and Disaster Prevention has said more than 430,000 people have been displaced by the floods of the Shabelle and Juba Rivers in the regions the two rivers pass in Somalia.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Prevention, Mohamed Omar Moalim, said most of the people were living in the surroundings of the rivers and Mogadishu.

He said in Hirshabelle, particularly Beletweyne town, at least 120,000 people have been displaced by the floods.

Elsewhere, Juba river is said to have caused further flooding that affected people living in Gedo region especially those living in the surroundings of the river.
